Mission Type - Mining

A Mining Contract requires that you collect and transport a specified number of crates back to Downgate HQ. To do this requires at least one Engineer.

The star levels for mining contracts effect two elements:
  • The number of crated materials required
  • The number and ferocity of the bugs encountered

Unlike Mining in Xenominer where you must convert your mined materials to bars for use, Swarm's mechanism converts them automatically as you dig. Remember, unlike in Xenominer, you're not a crashed and stranded miner, you're a fully equipped tech being transferred into the body of an ExoDrone, so you're not as limited in storage or conversion capabilities.

Once you've mined enough of a material, you will be able to create a Crate of that material. Each crate takes 100 units of a material. You'll see your material counts by pressing X as the Engineer with the Pick selected as your weapon. To create a crate, use the left and right bumper buttons to select the crate tabs, and then use the D-Pad to move the cursor to the appropriate crate type. Pressing X in that case will build 1 rate of the selected type assuming you have enough material. Once created, press A to move the specified crate(s) to your hot bar. To transport the crates back to Downgate HQ, you must place them onto the LZ pad adjacent to the red Transport block. Aim at the transport block and press and hold X to start the transport call.

Note - it takes 60 game minutes (60 seconds) for the transport to start. Also, once you start the transport call, the bugs will come running. Their goals will be twofold - attack you and destroy your crated materials before it can transport. Therefore, one good tip is to try and wait until the timer is down to around 10 seconds before you place the crates on the LZ pad. This reduces the amount of time the bugs have to destroy the crates (which means that you have to mine again).

In a Mining Contract Mission, you get credit for crates transported AND bugs killed, so so be sure to waste a few of the bugs while you're mining and collect any biomass they leave for extra Gredits.

If you have created and installed any automated weaponry, power systems, or special items such as bio scanners, be sure to collect them with your engineer before extraction or they are lost when yo leave the mission.

So...what is it if I choose a 1 star Mining mission and get swamped with aliens(bugs)? That was an unpleasant surprise. I couldn't do much except kill them!

Strange. A level one mining contract shouldn't send the bugs after you for a while.
