Special Blocks - Mineral and Bio Scanners

Postby Timpraetor » Tue Aug 19, 2014 8:01 pm

In Xenominer Swarm, two special (and somewhat expensive) block type are available - the Bio Scanner and the Mineral Scanner.

These blocks are powered blocks and are designed to provide location information on either bugs or mineable materials. They both require a separate power feed as they draw so much power that they will draw down batteries and make reloading your turrets almost impossible if all the devices are on the same power feed (unless you've built a huge generation station).

The Mineral, or Ground Scanner:

Mining missions can actually be quite tough if the materials are not visible in the surface or stumbled across while digging to build protection for your LZ. This scanner is tied to your Engineer Drone's suit systems and will provide an overlaid display of any mineable materials within a fifteen block radius of your drone's current location. This is a big help for locating materials for building / crafting and for Mining Contract fulfillment. There are three levels of mineral scanners. The lower

The materials are displayed relative to your Engineer drone's view and different materials will be displayed as different colors.

Level 1 Scanner:
  • Silicon = Pink
  • Copper = Orange
  • Aluminum = White
Level 2 Scanner (all Level 1 +):
  • Iron = Red
  • Titanium = Dark Blue
  • Gold = Yellow
Level 3 Scanner (+ 1 and 2):
  • Diamond = Light Blue
  • Endurium = Green

(BTW - these are the same as seen with the TrueSight Specs Helmet in Xenominer 2.5)

The Bio Scanner:

This scanner will pinpoint the location of bugs in the area and shows them as red dots on the minimap for all drone types.

Would be nice if they actually worked. I've used them all and only the bio one works for me.

They work.

Make sure the mineral scanner has power.
Make sure you are using the PICK.
Click the Right Thumbstick like you are zooming a sniper rifle.
Watch for the pulse - test this near some ore you know is there and you have hidden with some basalt yourself.

Silly Gristmill :P

The Ground Scanner also needs to be touching the Land Mass you intend to be Scanning... It makes it a bit harder on the Asteroid Level as you either have to move it around to the different Asteroids or Make Land Bridges between any asteroid you want scanned and the one the scanner is equipped on ;)

:? So no placing those Ground Scanners up high on safe little platforms...they have to be down on the ground with all the nasties that lurk about..

Not entirely sure if that was sarcasm or really how it was intended...but that may explain why I had a hard time in the asteroid belts with the mineral scanners not working...?

yes the mineral scanner has to be in contact with the ground you want to scan. Imagine it like a harmonic scanner. The sounds resonate in the object you're scanning and bounce back to the scanner. If the scanner isn't contacting than you can't scan. Better known as Ultrasound ;)
