There should be more uses for crystals other than non expensive lighting. You could make them combine with the portal light to make different colors.

I have to agree with you.
Crystals are very boring and may be irritating when you see through the crystal at the outside or the ground.
Crystals combined with lights would be very clean and solid which would look much better!

That's a good idea! (I mean...the crystals can't do anything....so....)
