Swarm 1.2

Official release and update information for Xenominer: Swarm

Swarm 1.2

Postby brian » Tue Oct 07, 2014 8:43 am

The update was pulled last week due to a crash in French. Our interpretation of the rules was a little off and it bit us. It has been addressed and will go back up as soon as we are allowed to post it (we have to wait a week after pushing an update or even pulling one down). We'll keep you posted on its progress when it goes back up.

the slow process is less on Microsoft directly, more on the nature of the XNA Indie Dev community.

Grist submits a release to the review pool
the review pool is pretty much everybody who paid to be an XNA developer (or tester in some people's case)
the game sits in the pool until 10 people (or whatever the # is) review and approve it

This used to take about a week. Now it takes longer because there are less people reviewing XNA games.

The probable reason is because there's less people working with XNA this year, than last year.

I suspect we're going to have ever increasing delays to release. At the simplest, Grist needs to get 10 people in their pocket to review their games to overcome this delay problem in the future.

And while it's not directly related to MS, it is peripherally their fault since they are doing nothing to further promote the Indie developer on the Xbox 360. This is what has primarily led to the drop off in XNA Indie developers and the number of members capable of performing the peer reviews required (the number is 8, BTW). I remember logging in a few years back and there would be 6 to 8 pages of games up for review. Lately, it's hardly ever more than 1 page.

When this French issue popped up (and French was the ONLY language it affected), a plea was made to the reviewers to pass it knowing that the French fix would be coming, but that fell on deaf ears. So, we're back at the starting point for peer review.

Thank you for keeping the game updated. Is it just a bug fix for the current version or are we to see something new added in 1.2v?

Mainly it fixes the 1.1 Claim loss glitch.

But, there are balance adjustments, claims now have multiple star levels, new Hive assaults (and the new super brain bug - the Jaxin), some new blocks, EXPLOSIVES!, new Drone armor colors, and a few other surprises.

Hopefully, they will get this through peer review soon.

The super brain bug sounds interesting and makes me wonder if its anything like the mind eater.

Well, it won't drill into your drone's head, but killing them is a bit of a challenge  and really requires multiple players - even on a 1 star Hive mission.
